Portland Metro Pipe Band was formed in late 2006 as a competitive pipe band for dedicated musicians. Led by Pipe Major Mark Tomasetti and Drum Sergeant Andrew Finley, the Portland Metro Pipe Band is made up of players from throughout the Pacific Northwest. Portland Metro finished second overall in the 2008 Grade III competition season sponsored by the British Columbia Pipers Association.

The Sir James MacDonald Pipe Band (formerly the Oregon Piper's Society Junior Pipe Band) was formed in 1993. Led by Jeff and Robbi Brewer, it is the first Oregon youth bagpipe band since the late 1970s and one of the only youth pipe bands between San Francisco and Seattle. The Sir James MacDonald Pipe Band is the first and only Oregon band ever to place at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Of their three entries at the Championships, they have twice been in the prize list in the Juvenile category.

Every year on the third Saturday of July, Portland gathers at Mt. Hood Community College to celebrate all things Scottish. Haggis, kilts, caber tossing and, of course, bagpipes. If it's Scottish and you can think if it...it's there. The next games will be on Saturday, July 18, 2009.
